Happy Halloween! A Minecraft Manicure

Wow, MUA is temporarily gone!  I admit, I responded to this crisis by buying nail polish - and then I started work on my Halloween nails!

For my Halloween manicure, I decided to recreate five famous monsters from the videogame Minecraft on my fingernails. If you're not familiar with the game, I've included pictures of the actual monsters for your enjoyment.  Here's my manicure!

And here's the monsters my nails represent.

I created this manicure by painting pieces of scotch tape, letting it dry, and then cutting out the different face shapes using small craft scissors.  I then placed these DIY nail stickers over the appropriate base colors.

Thanks for looking, everyone, and feel free to check out more pictures of this manicure on my blog.  Have a happy, spooky Halloween, everyone, and to those in the northeast United States, hang in there.  My monster-clad fingers are crossed for a return of the makeupalley servers.

Sandy and MUA

First, hope everyone's safe! Sandy is world news by now. Not sure if the extent of blackouts is making news yet. NYC is under an intentional blackout, in the hope of preventing damage and making it easier to bring the grid back up when the storm's over. Large parts of the Mid-Atlantic and New England have also lost power. More outages will probably happen before it passes. My guess is that MUA's servers are down because of the outages or blackout.

I'm fine, doing leak patrol at work. I can't comment on blog posts from my phone, so if you'd like to contact me, prettygirlscienceblog@gmail is probably the best way right now, or my personal accounts if you know them. They all come to my phone. I'll also be tweeting, unless Twitter follows MUA...

Good luck to anyone else dealing with the storm or earthquakes!

MUA meets Sandy?

MUA I miss you already!! It would appear Hurricane Sandy has caused MUA to shut down their servers. Was this announced? Stay safe East Coasters!

Breast Cancer Awareness Mammicure

Reposting this from Pretty Girl Science:

I don't like pink.  I was thinking of skipping the whole Breast Cancer Awareness thing because I cringe at the thought of painting my nails pink (again)...and then I was struck by a terrible pun.  Mammicure!  It's like a manicure...with BOOBS!  I love boobs!!  Best part?  Almost no pink!  I grabbed every nude polish I had and went nuts with my dotting tool...

Monster High Series

Hey guys, I haven't posted on here in a while.  I am going to do a series inspired by Monster High dolls.  It will probably be over a span of time, I have done two so far.  If you don't know what Monster High dolls are you should go google them they are so cute.

My newest one is inspired by Abbey Bominable the Daughter of the Yeti

Recap Post

I realized I haven't posted anything since my first post but I've been pretty busy with my own blog so I thought I'd post a sort of recap post of my recent favorites.

This was one of my early fall manicures with China Glaze Ingrid, I'm Not Lion and Riveting. The full post can be seen here.

This was my first glitter gradient sandwich, done with Love and Beauty Jade and Sinful Colors Nail Junkie. Jade was not originally a jelly so I created it myself and it worked out great! The full post for that is here.

This manicure is probably my favorite of this month. This was inspired by a skirt I saw on Pinterest and I just love the color combos. More pictures and the inspiration skirt can be seen in the full post here.

An urge to watermarble led to me to this mani. This was my first time experimenting with two accent nails in the middle and I loved it! I loved the similar colors of the marble. The main color is Sinful Colors Folly. You can read the full post here!

This was the first mani in which I saw the full beauty of Kleancolor Chunky Holo line of colors. I have it layered over a beauty supply store brand purple with a bottle shaped oddly like a Kleancolor bottle. More of the beautiful colors shifts can be seen in the full post here.

A very spring like mani for the fall, this was also my only gradient for the month. I loved the big green glitters in this Love and Beauty polish. I think a good dupe for it is NYX Girls Enchanted Forest. The full post for this can be found here.

Well, I feel like this post is long enough already. I might have to do another post for the rest of the month in a different post. Hope you guys enjoyed this mini spam! To see more manis and to see some plain swatches of some of these colors, come visit my blog!

Cloud Atlas!

Hi everyone - did anybody go see Cloud Atlas in theaters yesterday?

I'm obsessed with the book, so naturally I went, and painted my nails in honor of the occasion!

Feel free to go see more pictures of my Cloud Atlas manicure over at my blog!  Thanks for looking, and I hope everyone is having a wonderful October.

Illamasqua Boosh, Worthy of the Hype?

So, what's the big deal? It's a common question to have about a black creme nail polish that  costs $14. I have to admit I was very skeptical, but could so many nail board members be wrong? I didn't think so. Let's take a closer look at Boosh.

First NOTD - Essie Mojito Madness w/ Glitter

Hey girls! I'm Wendy (from Freshe Coat) or brainless_wendy over on MUA. I wanted to thank Amanda really quick for the invite and also apologize for taking forever to post anything...real life got in way for a sec.

Anyway...I hope I'm doing this right! The NOTD I wanted to share with you all is Essie - Mojito Madness. Love this green! (excuse the dryness...that darn scrubby tub kills my skin!)

Read on to see the rest of the pictures! :)

Halloween Spider Mani

I used Del Sol 'Trick-or-Treat' as the base.  It's a sheer-ish orange with holo glitter that turns black in direct sunlight (it does need a LOT of sunlight, though; you won't achieve any significant color change in partial sun).  I used white striping polish for the web and black striping polish for the spiders' legs.  The spider's bodies are black rhinestones and black 'pearl' cabochons.  For more information, view my full post here.

Indoors, with flash.  This is three coats of Del Sol 'Trick-or-Treat'.

Outdoors, in sunlight.

Thanks for Reading!

Coming To the End

Hey guys, I am one day away from finishing my 31 Day Challenge!  It was fun but dang it was definitely challenging at times. Here is my Day 30 Challenge, inspired by a tutorial.

Still More Fall Reviews!

I just can't help myself!  There's so much gorgeous new polish out this Fall....and I'm still not *quite* done!

Last week I was all about two new collections, Sinful Colors Enchanted/Muse and Sally Hansen's new LE Diamond Strength collection.

Fall has arrived! My October Birthday Mani in Orange & Black

First, I would like to mention that orange is not a color I ever reach for. But, during the months of October and November it is a must that I celebrate the holidays with a themed mani. This is probably the only time of year these polishes will get used :( While they are very nice, I just am not an orange person, or green for that matter. And yellow is not even on my radar. But, I'm an October baby, and Autumn is my favorite season,...orange is in order!

Here is my birthday mani!
